August 12th (Webster Parks)

We cooked a hot breakfast at Cypher's mine and left about 8:30 AM.  I had to put medical tape on a blister on my foot after hiking so many miles the day before. This ended up causing another blister, but it was nothing big. We hiked down a beautiful canyon, crossing streams many times. Here are some pictures of the hike.

We ended up at "Hunting Lodge ", where Waite Phillips used to hunt. We took a tour; it was interesting and I liked the lodge.  And then we began our hik to Webster's Park. There was a sense of urgency because the night before the troop had decided that some people would hike to Cimmaroncito at 3:30 to do rapelling, while others would hike to the commissary at Ute Gulch because we were out of food! What we didn't know was that Webster Parks was 2 miles of "up"! To make things worse, Dave threw up on the trail and started to not feel well, and then Dave and Mike got into an argument at camp (not surprising given this was the 10th day!). Ray and Carter went to the commissary, I went to Cimmaroncito with MattG, Matthew, and Ryan.

At Cimmaroncito we made it to the rock-climbing / rapelling area and got all the gear on, but had to quit because of lightning four miles away!  Bummer. We walked back down to the main camp and pretended that we had climbed.  We ended up taking hot showers though, and walked back to Webster's Park, and it started to hail!  It looked like white marbles laying on the trail, and I took the following picture.

We met back up with Carter and Ray on the trail and made it back to camp, where a troop from Long Island had camped next to us.  We had dinner, and Matthew crashed at 7PM, he was so wiped out from the day's hike.

Webster Parks is one of the most beautiful campsites we've stayed at. Our tents our on the edge of a gorgeous meadow with a beautiful view East, the sky looks like it's painted on, and the Tooth of Time was in view. See below for the pictures that Ray took from our campground.
